First of all, let me start off by discussing how you DON’T get saved.
You CANNOT be saved by ONLY:
- praying to God
- doing good deeds
- giving money to your church
- being born to parents who are Christian
- being baptized
These things are to be included on the Way to Salvation, but the aforementioned is missing a couple things: faith, repentance and God’s grace.
You must be baptized, repent of your sinful ways, and believe Jesus is Lord, the Son of God, and the Way. By God’s Grace you may enter the kingdom of heaven. After deciding to be saved, and beginning a Christian life, most people start to notice there is little voice inside of them that directs their actions and words. Some call this a conscience. I call this the Lord.
When you are saved, you will follow him fully and forever by trusting in Him and living for Him. Good fruits will be produced by your faithful life, such as charity and kindness. Romans 10:9 explains , “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Declare with your mouth that you are a sinner, and that you want to be forgiven– repent from your sinful ways. Ask God for forgiveness and to help you. Confess Jesus is Lord. BELIEVE (you can’t fake this) that Jesus is Lord and the Way to salvation, and TRUST him with everything you got.
However, you may ask, “Why be saved? What do we need to be saved from?” Because of the sin that entered the world when Adam and Eve first sinned, we are all born with a sinful nature. Sin runs this world. Some of us (definitely me) sin more than others. Well, that happens. Keep moving forward despite this. We are all sinners and must give an account for our sins one day in front of our Creator. We are not acceptable in His eyes, nor is all of humanity considered His Children, though he did create us all…UNTIL WE ARE SAVED.
Alas, we deserve to be judged for our actions; we have fallen short in His eyes. We can’t pay for all of the sins we committed, and we deserve Hell for what we’ve done. Only He is perfect and holy. We NEED TO BE SAVED from eternal existence without the Lord, which, essentially this is Hell. Eternity without our Creator is Hell. It is living on this earth lost, and then being lost for eternity. To understand how we are lost sheep with no hope without our God is what it will take to understand why you need to be saved.
“Yikes! I’m scared now,” you may be thinking. Well, don’t be! That is why they call the gospel the Good News. Jesus already paid the price for your sins, even though you may not have known it before today. He paid the price for us because there’s no way we can ever cover those high costs alone. Isn’t that so cool? You may have heard John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God is a loving God. He loved us so much He died for us so we don’t have to suffer much longer. Our lives on this earth are so short… yet eternity is, well, forever.
Ephesians 2:8-9 puts it, “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” This further explains SALVATION is a gift he gave to us, and it is up to us to accept it. He gave us freedom to choose. True love includes free will….Will you choose Him back?
The Bible also explains it this way, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved–you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)
Now, what does it mean to believe? It means to have faith deep down inside of you and know without having to see it. It means hope…to believe with all of your heart, your mind, and your soul. You truly must believe Jesus is God’s Son, that he came down to earth, was sinless, died a brutal death on the cross to pay for our sins with His blood, which was sufficient enough, rose from the dead as He said He would, and ascended to heaven where He sits at the right hand of God and has the power to judge us all when He comes back a second time.
I realize this is a lot of information to take in so email me if you have any questions– I’d love to chat with you. Peace be with you.
